Mercedes-Benz 5W-40 MB 229.5 is a multi-purpose original motor oil for passenger cars with gasoline and diesel engines. It has extended change intervals (up to 30 000 km) according to the auto maker’s recommendations. It is referred to eco-friendly lubricants due to its enhanced fuel economy. In comparison with MB 229.3, it ensures fuel economy minimum on 1.8%, has resistance to soot formation, better protects from wear, has higher values of low-temperature sludge and piston deposit formation, has higher thermal and oxidative properties. The approval is introduced in summer 2002 and recommended for the following series of MB engines: diesel OM600 (except the models with particulate filters), gasoline M100 and M200. The oils of this type comprise limited amount of sulfated ash (up to 1.5%), sulfur (up to 0.5%) and phosphorus (up to 0.11%).
